Hello everyone, my name is AR, and I’m one of the product managers at Apptega.
As part of our commitment to improving the user experience for our users, we are planning a big change to our UI to better accommodate the ever-changing cybersecurity frameworks that companies must comply with.
I will be sharing updates in several posts to gather feedback on each UI component we plan to introduce. This first post covers the biggest change to the UI.
The change we are introducing addresses the challenge of presenting the complex structure of newer cybersecurity frameworks while maintaining accuracy to their source documents. For example, PCI DSS 4.0 includes several layers of controls, requirements, objectives, and testing procedures. Currently, our platform can handle up to two layers: the control and its requirements (or sub-controls). We aim to make our structure flexible enough to handle these complex formats without cluttering the UI.
To accommodate this new framework in our system, we plan to introduce a more focused view of controls and their sub-controls/requirements, along with enhanced navigation tools.
With this focused view, you will see a single control on its own page. We also plan to add breadcrumbs to help you navigate to the upper layers and a control finder to help you navigate to the deeper layers of the control.
Check out the draft mockups below:
The focused view means there is less clutter and easier time scrolling to sections you need to work on rather than scrolling for several miles to get to the section you need to work on
The breadcrumbs (top) allows you to navigate to the upper layers quickly. The dropdown menu lets you navigate to the other controls in that layer. The control finder (bottom) lets you quickly navigate to any control no matter how deep they are in the framework
Of course, this is only a proposal and we’d love to hear your thoughts on these before we finalize them. Post your feedback in the comments below or reach out to me at ar.pueblos@apptega.com
Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued support. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and working together to create a better user experience.
